Scared to pick up my baby corn snake?

I got my corn snake on Wednesday, I had to hold him a little bit at the pet store and almost dropped him! Plus he peed on me, so now I'm afraid to hold him, and have no idea how to pick him up. He was fed on Tuesday, so I figure its been a few days and its safe to handle him. I tried just recently and he was so scared! He was hyperventilating (if snakes can hyperventilate) he was flicking his lil tongue at me, and he looked like he was ready to strike. I'm not really scared of getting bit, although it'd be nice if I didn't, but I just don't really know how to go about picking him up, and not totally dropping him when I'm holding him like in the pet store...
