My dog is too attached to us?

I have a 7 month old maltese that we absolutely love, but lately he is extremely attached to my mom and I. If we even put our shoes on or grab our purses, he starts to flip out and when we're out of the house my dad says that he's on the verge of hyperventilating. My mom and I are thinking of taking a trip sometime (maybe for a week or so) and even though the rest of my family will be home, I'm worried that he actually is going to hyperventilate or get overly stressed. Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with this?
