If your friend was having a panic attack and you didnt know what to do and then they suddenly fainted from hyperventilating, would this be a time to call 911? When I was younger, my mother was a flight attendant. I flew everywhere with her. I loved it! I have always had motion sickness and hated the way the plan took off (climbed) and dropped (landing). In my junior year of hs, I went to Spain. The outbound flight went well. I slept most of the time (Dramamine). Coming back didn't work so well. I forgot to take my medicine. As we were crossing the Atlantic, there was horrible turbulence. I started to become paranoid and I was sick as a dog! We were dropping way too fast and too soon! I was a shaking, crying, screaming, vomiting mess on that Lufthansa flight. I felt impending doom. It was horrible. Now, I'm going to Florida (we go almost every year, except these last couple of years). We're flying Airtran! I'm nervous. I'm a Delta type of girl. My question(s) (finally): Is it an OK/safe airline? What should I do besides take Dramamine to keep my cool? I'm afraid to fly any airline now! I've been praying but I'm so nervous! There's nothing wrong with you you have the same problem as me at-least I think I have depression, I've had some of the same thoughts and feelings that you've had about feeling bad about myself and at times I do feel like a "paranoid freak" I've thrown up over stress too. Therapy on the other hand really seems to help me though, But when I don't have therapy that's when I find myself getting more and more agitated. You shouldn't feel bad about your depression. And you shouldn't give up on doing what you have to do to defeat it. I hadn't had any issues with it either for a while, and then it came back. What people don't seem to understand is that it's not like a light switch that can turn off in your head and it can come back at any time or point. It's frustrating I know. Scared to pick up my baby corn snake?

Under water breath holding?

I frequently have breath holding contests with friends in swimming pools and sometimes times myself. Usually i reach 30 seconds under water until it starts to hurt like hell. But i was watching magic stuff on youtube and came across David Blaine's breath hold and found out that when you hyperventilate until lightheadedness, you can significantly hold your breath longer but because you basically numb that sensation because of the amount of c02 in your blood (i reached 2 minutes comfortably). i know that doing this can cause brain damage and shallow water blackouts. How long would it take me (15, 125lbs, 5'5) to have brain damage set in and how long till a black out. i have a safeguard when doing this (lightly squeezing a friends hand and if i lose my grip they pull me out).

Hi... Well, to make it short and sweet, I'm scared. Scratch that, TERRIFIED of anything that can... show images. I can't even sleep because I see and hear them behind closed lids. Sprained my ankle & then almost passed out but felt no immediate pain?

Last night I was sitting on the edge of my bed and (stupidly) decided to try to walk on feet that were very much "asleep." My feet/ankles were so asleep that when I slid off my bed and landed (my bed is high so I can't touch the floor) on the side of my left ankle. I heard it crack at least twice and landed on my knees. My feet were still asleep so I couldn't feel it hurting but I could feel my heartbeat in my left foot. I don't know if it scared me or what, but I noticed I was hyperventilating and I tried to calm myself down but I couldn't. I yelled for my mom and she and my sister came in there. When they got there, my vision was getting foggy and it sounded like they were miles away. I couldn't feel anything I was touching. They told me my eyes were rolling back and my pupils were huge. I lost all the color from my face and my lips turned blue. Then my sister gave me some cold water to drink at that stopped me from passing out. My vision returned and then my hearing went back to normal but I had a ringing in my ears for a few minutes after. This was last night, and my ankle is still very sore and swollen, but other than that I feel fine. I just don't understand why spraining my ankle would cause all that? It's not like I blacked out from the pain because I couldn't even feel it! If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it.

Have you tried telling your parents (calmly) how it makes you feel when they talk to you like that? Tell them that it hurts you to see them disappointed in you and upset with you, and ask them what you can do to make it better. It's possible that they may not even realize they're doing it. I would also recommend that you ask your parents to go to family counseling with you, and possibly even get some counseling for you on your own. I have never really liked spiders to begin with, but a month ago I had a bad incident and my fear turned to bad to unbearable. I was in the bathroom on the toilet, I saw the tiniest spider (no smaller then the tip of my pinky!) and was so scared and fearful to kill it. I jumped on top of the toilet and I got so upset I puked I was looking around to see if any other spiders were in the room, to the right behind my toilet was a wolf spider (an actual wolf spider, I live 12 feet away from over 4 miles of woods). I became frozen then ran out screaming and bawling into my bedroom and ever since then I won't go in a room without checking under, through, and on everything.. multiple times. Then when I am in the room the tiniest thing that looks or feels like a spiders, even something like a piece of yarn I begin to hyperventilate.

How can I get over anxiety & insecurity?

Recently I have been feeling panicky while I am driving or riding in a car, to the point where my heart races and I start twirling my hair continuously. Also, while at work, I will get the feeling that my heart is flying away, and I get flushed in the face. I do not hyperventilate like most people when having panic attacks. I also am insecure of the way I look some days. Cant really breathe that good?

I used to smoke grits for 4 years so I have no doubt that is one of the reasons (I quit 2 months ago) Anyway, I cant really seem to breathe right. I have to take slow deep breaths and when I do that it feels like I didnt get enough air that I needed. When I try n fall asleep its killer! I have to lay there and basically hyperventilate until I fall asleep.....i sleep right under my window so that kinda helps. I was diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma 6 years ago but I really believe that i am passed that. Can anyone give me some advice for sports asthma? Inhalors are no good!?

I love playing sports especially football, but I find it really difficult with sports asthma. I had a blue ventolin inhalor but i found it completely useless during a match! I asked my doctor for a different one and she gave me an oxis turbohalor. This inhalor has also no effect on me! I take a brown beclazone twice a day as perscribed. I am 17, eat a healthy diet, dont smoke, not overweight and excercise alot. During a match after about 10mins i almost start hyperventilating and feel as if my lungs are about to explode! When I push myself hard I sometimes get lightheaded. I take the inhalor but get no releif! My doctor told me that these were the strongest inhalors on the market. I really love football and dont want to give up but my asthma makes it really hard to play! If anyone has any tips I would be very greatful!

I have anxiety but I am not sure if I have had an acually panic attack before. The first time I thought that I might have had one was when I was sitting in class and I was getting really annoyed by the people sitting next to me while I was trying to do my work and I started getting shaky, it was hard for me to breathe and I was trying not to cry but I was able to calm down. It was really weird because I had never freaked out so much over something so little. A few months ago I was just in my house and my mom was on the treadmill. I'm 13 and I got heat exhaustion at my game today. Why am I hyperventilating!?

Before I say this I want to say that I am not kidding, making this up, nor did I try to make myself do this. Okay, so I was at my school library and I found a book on shyyness and, because I'm extremely shy, I decided to check it out. I read the signs of being a psycosomatic and the withdrawn shy person part matched me completely right. When I was younger I hated being in team sports, I skipped recess to stay in class and if the teacher kicked me out, I'd go to the library or read in the halls. I also preferred to stay alone with nothing but rock music turned up really loud, painting and drawing tools, and books. I always played board games by myself and I've always hated being outside. At first I just thought I was lazy. I've always done my homework, obeyed everyone, got my way through flattery and since like sixth grade ( last year) I've hidden my emotions. When I want to cry, I don't. I wait until I'm alone and then just let the misery eat me. When I'm angry, I imagine bad things or think bad things. I'm never truly genuinely happy and I almost never smile. Since last year, I've obsessed over how I look and I usually call myself ugly or fat, cause I am. Ever since I started seventh grade this year, I hate walking in wide open and largely populated spaces( like class and the cafeteria) and I feel like everyone is staring at me, judging me, criticising me, whispering about me. It makes me feel uncomfortable. It's gotten so bad, I don't even like going outside anymore. I hate being looked or stared at, being touched in any way, and I hate having my legs or arms bear. I always wear black or another dark color, and I'm always wearing a black sweater. I get headaches and I have asthma, I have a bad heart, and I don't participate in P.E because I'm scared that everyone will watch me and say " look at that fat ugly girl running around." It makes me anxious and nervous just thinking about going outside. I'm usually sad for no reason and I write disturbing stories that my teacher say are wonderful. I usually paint or draw in black and white, spending hours on art and then just ripping it up because its not good enough. I don't evn know who the hell I am. If the popular kids talk to me, I act cool and snobby, if I'm with hyperish and upbeat people, I'm hyper too. If I'm with calm quiet people, I'm like that too. I adjust myself depending on the mood of whoever I'm talking to at the moment. If I dont act like them and I act what you could describe as emoish. I love the concept of death and yet, I also like faeries and romance. I practically hyperventilate thinking about wearing shorts or even leaving my room. I prefer to talk to adults than kids my own age and speak formally, as if I was born in the seventeenth century. I get pushed around and I dont defend myself. I just glare and let it happen cause I think " It'll just happen again" and it does. I'm pretty short, not like thats a problem, but combined with the fact that I'm usually carrying like six books a day and glaring doesn't exactly help. I hate smiling or laughing and I'm usually rude to my friends. I can't help it. Lately, my grades have dropped and I've been feeling like "What's the use" and " What's the point." I think of things like " What's the point in life". I've never tried killing myself, but I have thought of it. I'm just to scared to try. There's more, but this is already really long, so I'll stop. Please tell me what's wrong with me. : ( I'm alos usually twitchy and suspicious of any one who comes near me, especially boys. I don't trust very easily and I always cover my mouth when I talk.

Oh God, I remember in fifth grade I had to speak infront of the whole class and I cried.(embarrassing) well, I'm 16 now and to deal with this fear I tell myself " I'm gonna have to do it sooner or later." (but sometimes my tummy still hurts a little when she calls me up to present) There's nothing wrong with being afraid to talk infront of your class but if u don't get it over with you'll keep being afraid. So I think I might have hyperventilated a few hours ago. I was watching a show that was scaring me and I was babysitting. That really put me on edge. I got really nervous. What can I do when I have to get my shot?

Because of the new law now, I have to get a shot yearly of TDap. I haven't gotten a shot since 4th grade, so it has been 3 years. I am deathly afraid of shots, and I am not exaggerating at all. In fourth grade, I had to get two shots. When I went inside the office, I started hyperventilating. Then, once they started wiping my arm, I fainted just a little, like when you get a head rush when you wake up in the morning. When she started prepping the needle, I bolted from the office. Three nurses had to grab me and bring me back to the office. I was screaming bloody murder, and then four more nurses came in and had to hold me down, on the ground, while I got the shot. So, while I was getting the shot 8 full grown women were holding me down. And they weren't ordinary nurses. I go to the Navy Base Clinic in Port Hueneme for all medical things. So they were Navy women, worked on the ships and worked with all the military guys. So, I can be very resistant. I can not stand the sight of them, let alone getting one. And now I have to get one next week, or I can't go to school in the fall. I have no idea what to do. I have tried breathing, music, reading, looking at something else, pinching my arm while the were doing it, and tons more. My mom is actually going to ask if I can get the knock out pills, so I don't remember the shot. Is there anything else I could possibly do?

My husband keeps putting me down?

Our relationship is pretty good the majority of the time, but there are times when he points out all my flaws, finds negative things about me, and generally makes me feel guilty. On more than one occasion he has called me lazy, worthless and f**king stupid amongst other derogatory comments. I do my best to keep the house nice when he is a at work and make food etc. He isn't sexist, we made a deal that if he was working I do the house stuff if I was out of work at the time and visa versa. Pain of a Nose Piercing?

I really want to get my nose pierced on the right side, and my mom will most likely let me get it done so I'll probably get it done soon. I'm soo nervous though, I'm terrible with pain! I hate hate hate needles, and cry and like hyperventilate even when I get my blood drawn or a shot! I got my ears pierced when I was 9, so I know what that's like. Why do my shins hurt?

I am by no means a runner. I have never liked running and have never been good at it either. When I was younger I would sometimes hyperventilate when I had to run a mile for gym class. I tried running for exercise this past year at college and I succeeded in jogging about 1.5 miles so I decided to try it at home too. Due to my low endurance, I could only run for a short period of time. However, after about a week of short nightly jogs, my shins started to really hurt. I thought it was maybe shin splints so I continued to run a short distance every day. The pain got worse so I went to a sports medicie doctor and I got MRI's from which she determined that I almost had stress fractures. I was given a boot for one leg and an aircast for the other and was told that about two weeks off from impact sports would be sufficient time to heal. I didn't run for a few months and when I did again at school I was fine. My shins hurt a little when I was wearing my old sneakers but I was fine with my new one recommended by the doctor. Now I am home and it has been about six months since my initial problem and again after about a week of very short runs my legs are hurting again. I really didn't run often at school and at home I run less than a mile and it causes pain. I would think that people who run more often or " too much" would have this problem, not someone who just started trying to run for fitness. Why do my legs keep hurting and how can I fix/ prevent this?

Surgery at the orthodontist???? Need advice please!?

Next month I am supposed to get a gingevectomy AND a fiberotomy all in the same appointment. They say it will take about an hour and fifteen minutes (which seems super long to me). I am supposed to have a consultation next Monday and I do NOT want to be conscious for this whole thing. I get really nervous whenever I am at the ortho's office and I tend to freak out/hyperventilate/etc. They told me that the normal procedure is to just give you some shots in the gums and numb you up but even when I get a cavity drilled I can still feel it. So which is better :the nitro or being put to sleep? I just don't want to be able to feel it, I don't want to be awake! Just thinking me about it freaks me out. So which is better? Any advice? Has anyone had either of these procedures done? Did it take long to heal? How did you feel afterward? Thanks :)

Last night I brought home a 6 week old Rottweilier/Boxer puppy. This puppy has been sperated from his mom since he was 4 weeks old. When I brought him home last night he was running around scratching our walls, our doors, our furniature while he was crying - extremely loud! I would pick him up and hold him to calm him down and nothing worked even when I got him some what calmed down he seemed like he was hyperventilating with how fast he was breathing. Does this sound like asthma?

I was diagnosed with panic disorder and I'm doing Cognitive Behavior Therapy, but I'm starting to think my breathing problems could be asthma. I have trouble doing the straw breathing and breath holding in CBT. I always feel like I'm out of breath even when just sitting, but when I actually try to do stuff like clean or work out, I have to gasp for air the entire time, then I'm lightheaded and sometimes hyperventilating afterwards. I was diagnosed with asthma 5 years ago but it felt like it went away so I quit using my inhaler. Does it sound like I have asthma again or is that just typical symptoms from my panic disorder? My dog is too attached to us?

I have a 7 month old maltese that we absolutely love, but lately he is extremely attached to my mom and I. Help getting over a few fears?

Just about a year ago now, I had a horse. He was a great big quarter horse who loved to cause trouble, but I kept him all the same. Despite the many, many falls I had off of him. One day, we were riding back to the barn, and when we went through this gate (one we had gone through hundreds of times before, no trouble) for some reason, he bolted. I managed to get him under control, and neither of us were harmed. The next day, the same thing happened, but he started bucking like a rodeo horse as well as galloping all over the place. I was thrown a good 30 feet, cracked my knee, and now I have two huge scars on my arms where the gravel tore my skin off.I couldnt walk for months, and I'm pretty sure I came out with a bad concussion as well. I have a new horse now, and she is absolutely darling. But I have such a problem riding outside now. Whenever we are outside, and she gets the tiniest bit ansty or quick, I have to get off because I start having a panic attack. I know she isnt going to do anything, but I cant help it. I cannot ride with other people because my mare gets a little bit scared when people go head-on, and I cant take the thought of what might happen. I can no longer ride through gates without hyperventilating. It is causing a huge toll on my riding, and I cant show anymore or jump, or really advance much anymore, either. Is there any way to help me get over this stupid fear? Any advice would be amazing, thank you.

What is a Hurricane like?

I dream of living in New Orleans (and I will). I want my brother to live with me, but he says he doesn't want to die in a hurricane. He thinks that every hurricane is like Katrina. I know that is not the truth, or the atlantic coast would be destroyed. I tell him that they're not all like that, that they're just like a thunderstorm that last for a few days. What should I do about possible snake in house?

I apologize for the long story. But a couple of months ago we had a storm that did a lot of damage to our house. It created an opening where the fascia board was torn off and roof was practically destroyed. It took roofers 1.5 months to get to it because of ongoing bad weather. At some point I heard beards in the attic area, right over the torn off fascia board. The roof was repaired last week and the fascia put back. A few days later we found a six foot brown type snake on the roof, wrapped around the electrical balast. My husband took it to the woods about 100 yards behind the house. I seriously have a phobia about snakes and hyperventilate, etc. I have actually seen psychologists because it interfers with my life. A couple of hours later we were looking at the house and my husband was trying to convince me there was no opening for it to have come OUT of the house and that it was in fact an outside snake when the snake was back on the ground in that area. He took it miles away and set it loose again. Today a friend pointed out to me that the snake was probably coming back for eggs it might have laid. I'm terrified these baby snakes are in my house. Any snake lovers know? What would cause it to come back to the exact same spot? What is the liklihood of it coming back for its eggs and could it have laid eggs in my house? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Where is the best place to view dolphins in the Atlantic City area without going on a boat?

We went on a Boat cruise last year in Cape May. This year we are on a budget and want to be able to view them from the shore. Are there any areas(bays, etc) where they frequent within a 45-60 minute drive of Atlantic City. I understnad that they may be a distance out in the water, but we just can't dish out the cash. I have issues with my mom. I hate talking to her. We are from very different cultures. I cut, and occasionally drink and smoke because of her. I don't let her touch me at all and if she does touch me, even accidentally, i feel like i'm going to hyperventilate and wait till she leaves and then i leave to my room. What was the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?

Me and my daughter went to walmart to go grocery shopping. I had drank a large monster energy drink in the car and my daughter was 2 at the time so i still had some discipline issues with her. anyways, all of a sudden I had to pee so bad! so im pushing the heavy cart of groceries and my daughter is walking next to me and I try to get us to the bathroom in the front as fast as I can. Then when we get up there that bathroom was locked for maintenance. (this was a new walmart also so I had no clue where the restrooms were).. so then I try to get her to walk faster to the back of the store because I am literally about to pee myself and she decides that she is going to play the hide and seek game and run from mommy while mommy is pushing a heavy cart, purse in hand, and trying to hold myself without people noticing... yeah, it was a major fail and I totally peed myself. It was just about the worst thing that could possibly ever happen.
